James moaned as he felt Raf turn him over to heal him. "I don't want to go to school today." He muttered jokingly under his breath. Hot flashes of pain laced his side, reminding him that, yes, he was indeed stabbed by a dragon claw. Good news? He happened to have ten ccs of angel on hand. As he felt the healing light sweep through him and his pain fade to a dull ache. He gave a relieved sigh. "Raf, I take back any of the blasphemous things I ever said."
As he got his feet under him, he was relieved to see that everyone else had made it out alright. Tide seemed to have gotten out of her rather precarious perch inside the maw of the beast. Scar had made his way off the wing of the dragon. Cass had finished her giant iceberg dropping. He made a mental note not to make her angry. He tested the soft scar tissue with his fingers. Wincing as he did so, well... Cool story for the scar at least.
He winced as he straightened out, trying not to look like a hobbled hermit. He started to think about what they had accomplished here. Killing a dragon? Definitely a power trip. While he couldn't claim he played the biggest role in the fight, but hey, none of his old friends could even claim to have seen one. Much less shoot grenade down its throat and getting clawed by one. Then again, most of his old friends probably didn't do a lot of the things they did here.
As the Dragons words echoed through his head, he shrugged. "Probably nothing, right?" he said, trying to lighten the mood. Then the Queens thanks rant through his head as well. A Heroes welcome into a subterranean kingdom? Yep, that was one off the bucket list.
He gathered his reward from the horde. Nothing like a few gems... Whatever they were. Had to valuable in some way, not like that mattered much. James was more a 'for the fun of it' guy. The reward was just icing on the cake.
He grinned at the mention of leaving.
"Yeah... I think I'm quite done with caves."

Gwydion panted as he knelt next to emancipated Tide. "OK.... You are not allowed to ever do something that stupid again. That's my job." He stood with the others as Raf healed the wounded Gunslinger. Swaying slightly, yep, way to much Ether use. Seemed like he only had enough to barely stay conscious judging from the darkness that was settling on the edge of his vision. Well, that was not reassuring.
He wasn't to worried though. He had used up more Ether before, this was not gonna kill him. Maybe make him really hungry and in need of a serious power nap. But not kill him. He watched James gain his footing, a large pink scar where the wound once was. He needed to get a power like that. He knew that some of the colored Ethers were capable of healing. Red Ether on the other hand? While small wounds healed quickly than a normal persons. Large injuries were another story. He heard the Dragon give out it's prophecy. Same old doom and gloom kind he had heard before. He knew that it probably had weight to it and that he would have to deal with some kind of greater foe later. To Gwydion though? That was just anohter chance to fight something awesome later. Dragons were fun and all, but the rpospect of something bigger made him grin.
He gathered treasure with the rest. Picking up the strange carving. "Guys? I didn't know dragons kept toys. Maybe he liked to play with a doll house as well." He said, miming the horse running around and gaving a sarcastic neigh. If this thing was a horse? It was hard to tell. Maybe it was a donkey? Who knew? When the rest were ready to head, Gwydion noded With the gunslingers setiment.
"Let's go do something more fun than hanging around here."

Tide slide out of the dragon's maw and right into Gwydion. Thankfully, she had stopped screaming when the teeth had released her legs. Her ground was still shaky though as she looked up at him. She was in a state of shock, brain processing things really slow. "Dully noted." Her voice was flat, almost expressionless and her eyes tracked to where she last knew Raferties was. It didn't seem he was hurt, but others were so lucky. Then again, they had just taken down a dragon who had almost taken them down. Some injuries were to be expected. Didn't mean Tide had to like it.
Using Gwydion to make sure she didn't fall and in a way also made sure he didn't fall either when everyone moved over to Raferties, she slid down to the ground to relax some. Yes. The former spell was gone, but Tide didn't seen any difference to be honest. She did however see and felt the difference in her leg as it was slowly healed to the point she could limp on it and wasn't in any danger of bleeding out. So naturally, she scooted out of the healing light when that happen. Better off letting those who needed it more like James take it up than just her. She also didn't have any knowledge on the spell or its mechanics so in reality, she had no idea if this was the case or not. That didn't stop her. Go figure.
Tide about jumped ten feet high though at the sound of the shadow dragon's voice. Eyes wide with fear, she turned to the body only to discover that the dragon was indeed dead. It just had a final message to deliver to them all. Shivering, she looked over as Raferties mentioned it was a prophecy. Great. That meant more trouble was on its way. Standing up, she managed to hold her ground without falling over so she took that as a good sign. "We will be ready for it...Will we not?" She glanced at everyone for a second before nodding mentally. Yeah. They would be ready for it.
Moving over, Tide would offer Raferties her support, giving him a smile. "You did just fine Raferties. It is enough to keep us from meeting our ends down here." Soon the Queen's voice rang though their heads and it was a much more welcome one than the shadow's dragons. That was for sure.
At the discovery of the horde, she shook her head. "Of course? What is a dragon without some kind of horde? Especially one whose intentions were not...The best." She only picked up the gemstones, thinking that Lenaarth could use them and it would be hopefully a peace offering for almost getting eaten. Hopefully. Though one of them was different. It held a soft glow and Tide almost put it back before keeping it. It might have been a small sithkin and probably wanted to go home so it could grow. Once again, Tide didn't know how things worked for these underground beings, but she wasn't gonna chance it just in case.
Raferties's words did nothing to assure her suspicions on this and she nodded. Moving over, she offered her shoulder for support for Raferties. Would do no good in her mind for him to get hurt after helping all them. "The only question is...What kind of power?" Which was a valid one. After all, that particular dragon's magic wasn't one she really wanted to be carrying around. She would sooner toss it into the ocean depths. Thankfully, it didn't seem like that, but she kept that little idea in her head...Just in case.

"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams
Scarheart would walk delicately on his aching legs, the sort of athletic conflict he had faced in these tunnels doing much to make his millennial-old bones drive like daggers through his muscles. Depositing the reward from the den in Cassandra's hands, he'd lay his blind head upon her shoulder, embracing her with warmth and the sort of calm triumph that could only come from defeating a creature that brought back memories from the centuries before.
~How many dragons have I slain before that the tactic becomes rote?~ Hren thought mostly to himself, though Cassandra could feel the tension remaining in his powerful form. He wandered to the fragments of memories stuck inside that head of his, one born of immortal curse, and let the brief flashes paint a portrait of repetitive motion in his mind that created what could only be now known as instinct. He let out a deep breath then let his adrenaline slowly fade so that his ears could once again perceive the subtle nuances of the cavern, instead of just the obnoxious roar of the Multiverse's most arrogant creatures (not that Korazjh was roaring just this moment) and his own heartbeat.
"I'm not sure what colors they are, but they feel wonderful to the touch." His voice, quiet and shaking, would entail not injury so much as sheer physical exhaustion.
"Silly dragons." Korazjh smirked to himself, flicking a remnant blast of telekinetic energy across his clothing to brush the dust from him head to toe. His hand would run across the smooth idol now residing within his grasp, the nimble and elongated fingers tracing every intricate cut into the stone. His gaze would ever-so-briefly leave his new treasure to first glance at Hren.
"I have to admit, no-eyes, you never cease to amaze me. All that agility and precision and you can't see a damned thing. I think I'm going to have to do more sensory-deprivation training so I can beat you at your own game." For the longest moment, it might have actually sounded like a compliment coming from the elusive stream of vocabulary that came from the Gith Warlord, if that brief silence wasn't interrupted by many more words to follow. "Though, it -was- just a dragon. I suppose I shouldn't be too impressed."
Then the Gith's eyes turned upon Raferties, the smirk becoming something more of a straight-faced stare. "And you... it's nice to see there is some use in you, Feathers. For a great while, I honestly thought your role in life was to provide all of this land with fresh pillow stuffing." It was a compliment, one could suppose. "Looks like this riff-raff really came together and accomplished something. Never underestimate the power of inferior people in large number, I suppose.
"Apologies" 1.) I apologize for my absence again. It was nice to slip quietly back into the end of something. 2.) I apologize yet again for Korazjh. He's the part of me that wishes it was legal to destroy people's speakers when they drive past my house with their idiotic bass-only music blaring at higher decibels than their I.Q.s, but goodness do I love that trouble-causing greenskin =)

Relief washed over the Djinn as the finality of the battle had been reached, the exhaustion riddling their bodies worse than the fading physical injuries that were mending with the magnificence of Raferties' magic. Cassandra barely heard the words from the dragon's departure, honestly just disregarding it as the meager wisps of an angry soul on its last end.
Welcoming the affection of Scarheart, she offered a simple and worn out smile before leaning her head against him with a sigh. As exhausted as she felt, he looked. "They are rather beautiful, I'll say. I can think of a couple of interesting things to make out of them..." Cassandra traced a finger over the contours of the stones before simply willing them out of the current existence, teleporting them to the home the two shared for ease due to the Djinn's lack of pockets. Skirts were always lacking from that sort of convenience.
"I think that we all were wonderful at ridding these tunnels of that wretched beast. And no, Raferties, you are not mistaken." Although it would take more energy than she was really enjoying the idea of spending at this time, Cassandra paused and murmured the offer, "If you need, I can cast a spell to find out what the magic is.."
She wasn't entirely sure as to what the Angel could actually do, but she figured it was only right to offer before she took Hren and vanished from the depths.

The gemstones had little use to the Selu'ani, in all honesty, but the figurine that shared her likeness was something of intrigue. So much of a distraction that she nearly missed the rather brash words of the Githyanki. Almost. However, unlike many, she had experienced the demeanor of him long enough to realize what his comments technically were.
Stepping a fraction closer to him, her words were soft enough to only be heard by those straining. "Such kind words, Korazjh'iktha, and it could be considered that you are growing soft in your time in these lands. I find it to be a rather intriguing side of you that you are revealing." A small smile played at the corner of her lips, but she turned her attention to the others present who were examining their own baubles and trinkets. Ashyana would leave the Gith alone for now, otherwise.
"Thank you, Raferties, for your curative magic. I am sorry it has drained you so, but it is appreciated by us all."

Raferties chuckled at both James’ jest and his words of thanks, as it were, patting the man’s shoulder before he leaned back to rest and the horde was looted.
“Yes, I can agree with you - I think I myself am done with being underground for some time to come. Perhaps it is due to being a Solarian, or simply being a more aerial creature, but I believe seeing the sun will be most welcome after all this.”
The angel could also agree with Gwydion’s comment to Tide, knowing that he felt like he owed her greatly for the self-sacrifice so many times over, but let the Journeyman voice his own concerns without adding his own thoughts. Somehow he thought Tide would simply understand his gratitude; they had been friends for some time before all this. Though the ether-drained man’s poke at their defeated foe made the angel laugh softly for the wit, Tide’s responses brought a flicker of concern. A Lorekeeper was made to be observant on many fronts, and thus it was that Raferties noted how Tide had stepped from his healing rather quickly, that her eyes were dull and her voice flat. He gratefully accepted her help to stand, giving her arm a reassuring squeeze as he did so.
“Yes, we will be ready, far more than I believe his master, whomever he may be, would like. And I am glad my powers were enough. Firstborn though I may be, I am far less combat-trained than other Guardians, and far less capable of healing than a Seraphim.” It was said with a smile, clearly trying to help lighten the mood as well even as he let Tide take some of his weary weight once she’d gathered her own share of the treasure, a wing flicking around her shoulders in an offer of comfort for whatever was upsetting her and at the same time trying to support her in turn.
His gaze briefly passed over Scarheart and Cassandra, with a small pleased nod that they seemed to have healed well enough for the journey back, and giving the Djinn a nod of thanks for the agreement. Thus it was that he missed Korazjh’s opening statements entirely, only registering the Githyanki’s words when he heard the nickname leveled at him. Feathers… it wasn’t one he’d heard often, only once previously so certainly not common. But there was no annimocity or direct cruelty in the tone, and as his mind ran through the other things said he wondered if it was some sort of sideways compliment. If he didn’t know better, he might have even called it a tease, much in the manner that he and Keldos sometimes teased each other; the ‘pillow stuffing’ part certainly had sounded like such. So he decided to take it at face value, and gave a tip of his head in reply as Ashyanna said something quiet to Korazjh that apparently made her smile.
“I will recover my energy with but a little rest, so do not fear for me. I believe my Brother would say that this proves simply that I need to train more, and was a good trial for me. It is a tribute to those who protected me that I was able to utilize my powers without interruption.” Yep, there was definite pride in his expression for those heroes with him. “Everyone did exceptionally well. Now - lets go home.”
The journey back to the surface would prove to be an easy one, with a feeling of normalcy beginning to return to the tunnels. The heroes would pass a few of the Sithkin who were already working to reclaim their home territory, but would pause to give empathic bursts of gratitude and respect to the visitors from above. Stepping back into the sun-lit library would be a bit of a shock to the eyes, the passage of light upon the floor revealing that they’d been belowground for a couple of hours.
In the main room, Raferties would take a seat on a crate with a thankful sigh (notably plunking himself down in the path of said sunlight), then regard everyone.
“Now, let us see about what was found. Tide, if I may? Your crystal radiates powerful divine magic, so I may be able to determine something about it.” He nodded to Cassandra. “I know you are weary, my friend, but if you could examine the figurings? Lorekeeper I may be, but arcane magics are far stronger with you.”
It would only take a touch of Tide’s crystal into the angel’s hand for his expression to shift to awareness, and a touch of delight. The Guardian angel examined the gem for a moment longer, as if to be certain with himself, then held it back out to Tide.
“Tide, I have seen these type of crystals before, so I can assure you that it is no magic of the dragon’s. In fact, I believe you have just saved a life.” His smile widened. “Or at least will once you break this. Throwing it against he ground should suffice; they by nature are quite brittle.”
The crystal would shatter as easily as Raferties had promised, a whirl of sparks rippling over the fragments for a moment as if in hesitation or study, before arcing through Tide completely with a burst of tender warmth and emerging behind her harmlessly… with a padding of paws on tile. A moment later a cheetah-like feline would slip around Tide’s side, rubbing up against her legs and hand while folding feathered wings down against her back.
Do not be sad, Beloved. You have done a wondrous thing. Do not see the wounds suffered; see that all live. Do not fear what lurked below; know he could not stand up to your light. Do not doubt your actions; by then you have saved lives.
Even as this was happening, the shape of the figurines could be finally seen - Korazjh’s a jade rhinoceros, Gwydion a sugilite horse, and Ashyanna a red sardonyx tiger. Thankfully for Cassandra and her reserves of magic, it would prove to not be needed as the moment the figurines were touched by the sunlight, they would begin to glow. In each of their minds would come a sound seemingly from the figurine they held - the low grunt of a rhino, the high and wild neigh of a horse, the heart-stopping roar of a tiger - each requesting the same thing without words:
Speak to me a name…
The names so spoken, the figurines would wrap in a mist and fade away, and less than a foot from their respective new masters would be the creatures the carvings had resembled, living, breathing specimens of their kind… aside from a few small details. Good thing the main room of the library was big and open!
Bond! Tide to The Gentle Heart Holds Hidden Depths of Courage Female Angel Familiar
Bond! Korazjh to Old Soul Warrior Jade Gemstone Sumine Male Rhinoceros
Bond! Gwydion to Light Against the Darkness Sugilite Gemstone Sumine Mare
Bond! Ashyanna to A Warrior's Courage Runs Crimson Red Sardonyx Gemstone Tigress
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Ok, ok, when I started this adventure I had no idea that I would reveal not one, but two species by the time it was over. Inspiration is what it is, however, so here you are - the Sumines! You can feel free to read up on them, but they have no unique naming conventions so anything goes!
And with this… the adventure is over! I cannot believe that I started this is December, thinking it would be a fun little jaunt in creative writing for me. Hah! Little! I should’ve known better, huh? XD But it was most certainly fun, in the extreme, and yes there is more to come. The dragon’s prophecy must come to pass, which means more danger threatening Haven and more perils for heroes to overcome. Hope you’ll be back for it!

Tide The Gentle Heart Holds Hidden Depths of Courage Female Angel Familiar
Speech: Italics #db6982
Tide came to help out a friend with a problem. That’s what friends do for one another, right?
That was before things got dangerous. Before giant beetles and a race in dire peril. Before the trek un\\into the unknown and facing down a Shadow Dragon. At any point, Tide could’ve turned aside, gone back to the surface and safety. Raferties certainly wouldn’t have thought any less of her for it, especially after the Sithkin Queen’s words of a threat below. Tide herself was clearly aware of the danger, as she sent Charlie Biscuit away for his own good. But not only did the woman remain to see things through, she not once, not twice, but three separate times courageously take action to prevent harm to the Lorekeeper, the last two at cost to herself. It is a deed that Raferties will never forget, eidetic memory or no.
So it should be of little surprise that Tide attracted the attention of a different Angel as well, an Angel Familiar that is. The moment the familiar was free from her imprisonment, she knew she had found her kindred soul at last. A gentle being, she is more apt to seek peace and to nurture than conflict and battle. She’s always willing to help a friend, and acts as a mediator when others argue. Helping those around her shoulder their burdens is her forte. It can sometimes be difficult to think of her in any sort of risky situation, or doing something daring. But then, when the chips are down and danger looms, she’ll suddenly be there to defend her loved ones even if she must take the blow herself. Better to endure it on her own, and spare them the pain, and even if they argue with her after the fact she will only say that it was worth it. Thankfully she isn’t a martyring sort. She won’t intentionally try to get herself killed, since that would only make those she loves sad. She has a good head on her shoulders. But she will do everything she can to safeguard those around her, like a good Guardian Angel.
Whatever her old form before meeting Tide was, she has taken her final shape now. She looks like a long-legged feline, much like a cheetah, around four feet long or so. Her cuddly-soft fur is a pale mint green, with lavender and baby-yarn pink making up her spots. While some angel familiars only mimic feathers, she actually has real feathers running from the top of her head down her neck and to her shoulders, where they meld into a pair of gorgeous and fully functional wings stretching from shoulder to tail. (perhaps a small note on the circumstances that brought her a Tide together) These feathers pick up the lavender from her spots, with icy pale blue banding the mid-feathers and lowermost flight feathers. A spray of matching feathers sprays from her tailtip. Like all angel familiars, her eyes are pale blue.

Gwydion
Light Against the Darkness Sugilite Gemstone Sumine Mare
She’s a bright, gentle one, this mare. No matter what adventure Gwydion embarks upon, she’ll be ready to join him and by her presence and encouraging nuzzles keep the Journeyman’s own spirits bright, no matter the disappointments or hardships he may face.
When active, she is a pale gray horse much like an arabian in build, with just a hint of lavendar in her coat and her mane and tail long, silky, and ebony black. That she is actually a Sumine reflects in her rich purple hooves that gleam like her figurine form and the almost marbled blaze in shades from smoky to royal purple with bits of white added in that marks her muzzle. Her figuring form is a Sugilite stone carved so she seems to be prancing.

Kor Old Soul Warrior Jade Gemstone Sumine Male Rhinoceros
He’s quite a capable fighter, this rhino. Very willing to charge headlong into battle at Kor’s command, he’s also very ready to rush to the aid of those in need. A sympathetic old soul in a warrior’s body, Kor is likely to find himself pulled into more deeds that help others with their troubles and needs, much as he did with the Lorekeeper’s Iron Door. Who knows? Perhaps some of this fellow’s attunement to the needs of others will rub off on his master. At least the Sumine is always good at figuring out the best way to help with said problems, or this habit might be frustrating!
A pure, rich green jade in his figuring form and looking as if to lunge into a run, in his active form he appears to be a white rhino, with white-gray hide and small eyes that are so dark green that they appear black except under close inspection. His horn shows his true nature, however, as it appears to be made of jade; a brilliant green with lighter and darker shades in patches fading throughout, small streaks of black, and flecks of glinting gold.

A Warrior's Courage Runs Crimson Red Sardonyx Gemstone Tigress
In some cultures, warriors wore red so enemies could never tell when they bled. Flearless and highlyl determined - almost to the point of stubbornness - this tiger might have ben reincarnated from one of these men-of-the-blade, despite her orange fur. Just being around her emparts a feeling of enough confidence and courage to face down a whole flight of Shadow Dragons. And the Selu warrior woman can rest assured that from the largest threat to the small, her tigress Sumine will be there to fight with her to the very end.
A roaring tiger of red sardonyx when in figuring form, her active form is a golden-furred female bengal tiger, with thin white, crimson, and dark red stripes in the place of black. Her eyes gleam amber with a strong predatory night, enough to make anyone think twice about threatening her.

Tide did understand. Somewhere in that head of hers. She was better at picking up on non-verbal cues than she gave herself credit for, but that didn't mean she acknowledged it herself half the time. "Could not have proved it my be." She gave him a genuine smile, having taken the comfort he was offering. Hearing someone else speak the same words was reassuring. They had a warning. They could prepare now and from what she had seen so far of everyone, no one was gonna give up their home without a fight.
Thankfully, the journey back to the surface would be uneventful. Other than the sithkin thanking them in that emphatic way of theirs of course. The light was bright though and had Tide blinking a few times to get rid of the spots dancing before her eyes. Maybe sunglasses would be a good thing to add to the bag at some point...Especially if any more underground exploring was gonna be done in the future.
With no argument, Tide handed over the crystal that had radiated magic so powerful. She knew it hadn't been a sithkin since none of the sithkin they had passed had stopped them for it. Though what or who it could be was completely lost on Tide. Though not on Raferties as she watched his face give away the fact that he at least knew who was in the crystal. At the suggestion of throwing it on the ground, Tide did pale a bit. She was just told there was a life in here. Last time she had crystal that held life, it had held Charlie Biscuit and if it had shattered...Well, Charlie certainly wouldn't have been around for the Queen to bring out of the crystal. But this was Raferties saying this and she would only hesitate a moment before smashing the crystal against the ground, covering her eyes quickly afterwards just in case.
The next thing she knew, there was a warmth going through her, a pleasant warmth. Quickly uncovering her eyes, she was just in time to feel the soft fur beneath her hands as she looked down at the familiar.
Before Tide could speak, the surrounding area erupted in a cacophony of animal sounds. She jumped mildly as she quickly realized that the sounds were coming from the various animals that now occupied the room. That was...Actually, she couldn't even say that was new as she shook her head and finally responded.
"It is not that. I do not fear what lurked below. I fear what is to come...Even as I know we will win, I still fear it. I fear I will not be strong enough to protect them..." Tide said this quietly so only the familiar would hear and maybe anyone else if they were close enough. "They are the family I never had and I cannot let them suffer." Giving Eriu a small smile, she shook her head. "But these are thoughts for later. Right now, I will not be sad for we have won today and we will win again."
That she truly believed. They would win and prevail, no matter what was thrown at them. They had too, there was no other options.
(This was a blast and a half~ I love my new companion, she is a perfect addition to Tide's family. I didn't name her in this post as familiars tend to come with names, but I do have one picked out if you would like me to name her. Just let me know and I can edit this post in with the name~
Edit: Named~ I named her Eriu. Which is peace in Irish...Or would be if I could figure out the proper way to type it <.<)
